ECE Scholars Selection Process

A selection committee of award-winning teachers reviews all applications and selects finalists to be interviewed. After the interview process, up to 20 students will be chosen as Early Childhood Education Pathway Scholars. Candidates applying for admission to the Early Childhood Education Pathway program must first be accepted into the Early Childhood Education program at National-Louis University and clear Kohl Children’s Museum background check. Employment at Kohl is optional, but highly recommended.

Employment at Kohl Children’s Museum will provide not only needed income for students who must continue employment during their education, but will also provide critical experience with helping guide young children through distinctive learning experiences in an environment designed to promote learning through complex play. Students will have unique access to Museum resources and personnel to augment their classroom learning. In addition, through the Museum’s Early Childhood Connections program partner schools, they will have opportunities for practical experiences with young children from low-income communities who are at risk of academic failure. Employment hours are flexible and can range from 5-20 hours per week. (Potential income for working 20 hours per week for two years is $20,000.00)

While employment at Kohl is optional, it is mandatory to go through the screening/application process at Kohl in order for students to observe and participate in any Kohl activity.
