The Department of Language Studies

The Department of Language Studies offers a foreign language minor and other coursework designed to enhance global awareness and knowledge of the universals and diversity of linguistic and cultural expression.  It also assesses the oral and written English language proficiency of post-secondary and adult students whose native languages are other than English and places them in appropriate courses.

The courses offered by the Department of Language Studies provide the means by which a diverse community of individuals can achieve personal, professional, and academic goals.  The focus of these courses is the learner as an individual whose potential is progressively realized through innovative and responsive implementation in the classroom and in a variety of settings.

The faculty of the Department of Language Studies create, approve and deliver credit and noncredit courses, programs and workshops designed to develop language and intercultural communication skills. The teaching staff hold advanced degrees in second language instruction or related fields, and are active in the internal and external promotion of scholarship, consultation, and professional development. The selection and development of curricula and faculty reflect the department's philosophy of language teaching and learning, culture, and innovation.
