CPS Bridge Program

Experience college now! This is your chance.

This program is specifically designed for high school junior and seniors in the Chicago Public Schools. If that is you, you can take college-level courses for both high school credit and college credit.

What can I do in the Bridge Program?

  • Get a head start on college.
  • Make new friends.
  • Potentially earn high school advanced placement credit.
  • Potentially earn college credit.

Am I eligible?

  • You are a junior or senior in the Chicago Public High Schools.
  • You have a minimum Grade Point Average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
  • You have an attendance level of at least 90%.

How do I apply? (1st time applicants)

  • Obtain an application from your high school's college counselor, fill it out, and send it in. (The application form is also downloadable from this web page as a pdf file.) You will indicate a 1st and 2nd choice of course work from the list of available Bridge courses sent to your college counselor or available on this website.
  • Write a 100–150 word essay outlining your educational and career goals.
  • Submit a letter of recommendation to the program from your high school's college counselor. (The recommendation form is also downloadable from this web page as a pdf file).
  • Submit a copy of your official high school transcripts.
  • Be assessed in writing at the Center for Academic Development prior to registering for any course work. You must pass the writing assessment with a Satisfactory or a CAD Recommended in order to be enrolled.
  • Only those students who are solely on the math track will have to take the math assessment in addition to the writing assessment.

Assessment Requirements for all new students

  • ALL NEW College Bridge students must take the university's reading and writing assessment . You must call the Center for Academic Development (CAD) at 312-261-3374 to schedule. Math assessment is not required for Bridge students. If a student is not accepted, he may reapply the following term.

  • U.S. History & Culture
  • Studio Art
  • Mexican Art/American Art/Egyptian Art/African Art
  • Intro to Music
  • Applied Music: Class Piano
  • Effective Speaking
